30 Rock Season 4 Episode 22: I Do I Do
In this continuation from last week’s episode, Liz stretches out her time on the altar at Floyd’s wedding while Jack convinces Nancy he cares for her. Jack tells Nancy she knows him from his early roots in Massachusetts as a poor Mama’s boy who had to wear his sister’s hand-me-down corduroy pants. When Nancy asks Jack if he’s in or out, Jack tells Nancy he’s in. Good thing, since Liz is just finishing singing a terrible rendition of The Wedding Song to the wedding participants.
The wedding crowd moves from Floyd’s wedding to Cerie’s wedding next. Jack runs into Jenna’s boyfriend Paul, who has upset Jenna by dressing in drag as Cher as well as dressing up as Jenna in drag. Jenna feels betrayed by Paul, she thinks he should only dress up as her if he really loved her. Paul asks Jack if its possible to love two women at the same time and Jack says yes it is possible. Paul feels better about the situation and thanks Jack for his advice.
As Jack and Nancy settle in to Cerie’s wedding reception, Nancy heads to the bathroom where she hears a woman crying in one of the stalls. Avery walks out of the stall and Nancy asks her what’s wrong. As Avery reveals she is there to win her boyfriend back and hints that she is pregnant, they both realize they are talking about Jack. Nancy asks if Avery wants to talk it over between them and Avery says yes.
Wesley convinces Liz to grab a pair of his dress shoes he needs for the wedding from the office where he used to work. Liz is sitting at the desk when an airline pilot comes in looking for his insurance agent. When Liz tells him Wesley no longer works there he asks her to process his insurance form. Liz tells Carol the airline pilot she does not work there. Liz discovers they have a connection when Carol talks about his favorite show TGS playing on his flights and Liz tells him she is the head writer of the show. Liz learns that Carol has a layover of a few hours before his next flight; she asks Carol if he’d like to join her at Cerie’s wedding and Carol says yes, he will meet her there soon and to be ready to dance. Liz meets up with Jack at Cerie’s wedding and congratulates him for finally making a choice between Avery and Nancy. Jack says there is no turning back for him.
At TGS Kenneth finds out from Pete that Jack has promoted him and he is being transferred to LA. Kenneth doesn’t want to transfer from New York and asks Tracy for advice. Tracy tells Kenneth to do a bad job, just like he does, and he will manage to get demoted. Pete has Kenneth take Kabletown execs on a tour of TGS and Kenneth does a terrible job of the tour on purpose, resulting in him being fired from his Page job.
Nancy returns from the bathroom and finds Avery’s name on the placecard along with Jack’s. Nancy asks Jack what he likes about Avery. Jack begins to tell Nancy about all the wonderful things he likes about Avery and Nancy begins to feel better about losing Jack. Nancy tells Jack Avery is at the reception and she is pregnant. When Jack hears this he is shocked and thrilled at the same time. Nancy tells Jack he needs to be with Avery.
After Liz sends Wesley a text message to break off their engagement, Wesley is outraged and confronts her. Liz tells Wesley about the wonderful pilot she met who convinced her she does not have to settle when it comes to love. Liz realizes Carol has heard her entire speech and is uncomfortable with her confession of feelings for him, prompting him to leave the reception.
Avery is shocked when Jack proposes marriage and wants to be sure he is not just trying to do the right thing. Jack tells Avery it is fate that brought them together and that he has always wanted to be a father. Jack embraces Avery and they kiss. Liz loses two men in one day and looks to Jenna for support. Jenna, who is still upset with Paul, thinks they are better off single. Suddenly Jenna sees Paul dressed in drag as Cher. Paul turns to show he is dressed as Jenna on the other side. Paul explains he loves two women and she needs to accept that not everything is about her. Jenna understands where Paul is coming from and they make up.
As Liz begins to feel like she is the only one without a significant other at the wedding, Carol crashes Grizz’s wedding to find Liz. Carol admits he was scared by what Liz said but fate is telling him maybe they are meant to be together and to give it another shot. Liz is estatic and she and Carol start dancing in a very geeky fashion. Kenneth bursts into the reception drunk, revealing he has been fired and tells off the entire TGS staff by saying how wonderful they are and how much they mean to him. Kenneth ends his speech with a cheery “Have a wonderful summer!”
