HBO Show News: Raising Renee

Painter Beverly McIver was enjoying a skyrocketing career when she promised her mother, Ethel, that she would take care of her mentally disabled sister, Renee. Years later, following Ethel’s death, that promise came due. Filmed over the course of six years, the compelling HBO2 documentary RAISING RENEE chronicles Beverly McIver’s efforts to make good on her promise when it debuts Wednesday, February 22 (8:00-9:30 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO2. A testament to the power of family bonds, this thought-provoking film is produced and directed by Steven Ascher and Jeanne Jordan (the Oscar-nominated “Troublesome Creek: A Midwestern”). RAISING RENEE debuts Wednesday, February 22, at 8:00 pm on HBO2.

HBO Show News: Documentary: The Loving Story

HBO Documentary Films presents THE LOVING STORY. In many ways, Richard and Mildred Loving were a typical couple. They grew up in the same Virginia town, fell in love and decided to cement their relationship by marrying. Because she was part-black and part-Native American, and he was white, however, their 1958 marriage was declared illegal by their home state.  

But the Lovings fought back and ultimately changed history through a watershed Supreme Court case that overturned bans on interracial marriage in 16 states. The exclusive HBO documentary THE LOVING STORY, the uplifting saga of these unlikely Civil Rights heroes, debuts on Valentine’s Day, TUESDAY, FEB. 14 (9:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT) during Black History Month.

HBO Show News: The Union

On Thursday, February 2nd HBO Documentary Films presents The Union. The Union takes an unprecedented look at the creative life of Elton John and his remarkable collaborative album with his early-career idol, Leon Russell. The Union is produced by award-winning music producer T Bone Burnett and directed by Cameron Crowe. Never before filmed in his composing process, John is captured by Crowe in this candid portrait of one of the world’s most treasured artists and performers. Begun in Nov. 2009, The Union chronicles the entire writing and recording process of the heralded album John recorded with Russell. Check your local listings for more information.

HBO News: Film: 18 Days Of Egypt’s Unfinished Revolution

HBO2 presents the film In Tahrir Square: 18 Days Of Egypt’s Unfinished Revolution. Emmy®-winning documentary filmmakers Jon Alpert and Matthew O’Neill were on the scene in Cairo, capturing the sights, sounds and passion of a modern-day revolution. The film brings viewers into the streets of Cairo to experience first-hand what began as a small, peaceful demonstration and quickly grew into a revolutionary movement that would force the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak. They took over a city square and in 18 days brought down a regime that had ruled for 30 years.

HBO News: Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory

The award-winning HBO documentary series “Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills” (1996) and “Paradise Lost 2: Revelations” (2000) spawned a
worldwide movement to free the West Memphis 3 for wrongful murder convictions. This film tells the entire story, from the arrests in 1993 to the growing movement, through the entire appeals process and the uncovering of new evidence, concluding with their release. Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory premieres on HBO tonight, January 12, at 9:00 p.m.
