Man v. Food Nation Season 4 Episode 11: Milwaukee Wisconsin
Adam visits Milwaukee, Wisconsin to help mentor MvFN member Jeremy Wheeler, who has been unbeaten by food at 14 different food challenges. Jeremy plans to take on the Red Rock Saloon’s Unforgiven Challenge. Jeremy must down a huge burger, fries, and searing hot wings in 23 minutes in order to earn a t-shirt and a spot on Red Rock Saloon’s Wall of Fame. Adam is concerned over the limited time given for this burger challenge.
Adam stops by Martinos first, known for their Italian sandwiches. Adam is eyeing their famed Italian Combo. Adam checks out the kitchen where he learns how their Italian combo is made. The chef cooks up an Italian sausage, adds sliced beef on the grill to heat, then adds the mozzarella to the two meats and lets the gooey cheese melt to perfection. The cheese topped Italian sausage and beef are loaded up on fresh French bread, topped with a homemade red sauce, spicy fresh giardiniera, then finished off with a dip in a parmesan au jus. Adam takes a bite into the Italian Combo and remarks on the quality of the meats and the amazing, flavorful spice of the giardiniera.
Adam’s next stop is Benji’s Deli, where their Hear-O-Israel sandwich is a big hit. Adam loves his New York deli sandwiches and this one impresses him. Adam visits the kitchen where the chef builds this beloved local deli sandwich. The chef layers 3/4 pound of pastrami, 3/4 pound of salami, 3/4 pound of corned beef, 3/4 pound of peppered beef, then tops the meaty deli sandwich with swiss cheese, house cole slaw, and rich thousand island dressing on rye bread. Adam takes a taste of the Hear-O-Israel and is a believer in the legend of this delicious Milwaukee favorite.
In the montage segment Adam and challenger Jeremy reinact a number of goofy scenes from the TV show Laverne & Shirley, the show’s storyline having been based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Adam and Jeremy play along with the parody complete with colorful bandanas and skipping along to the theme song.
Adam and Jeremy prepare for the Red Rock Saloon’s Unforgiven Challenge. Adam visits the restaurant’s kitchen to find out what Jeremy is up against, knowing Jeremy has never faced a spicy challenge before. Adam watches as the chef puts together the Unforgiven sandwich. The chef cooks up a juicy beef burger, a chicken breast, and Applewood bacon, adds egg and onion stringers, and piles it all on a toasted hamburger bun. The 1.5 pound burger is accompanied by 6 Ghost Chili hot wings and a pound of fries. The spicy part of the challenge comes from the infamous Ghost Chili sauce that covers the side of hot wings Jeremy must take down in order to win the challenge. Adam tries one of the hot wings and is unable to speak the sauce is so unbearably hot! Adam recognizes Jeremy is up against one tough competitor.
Jeremy begins the challenge with Adam by his side for the 23 minute Unforgiven Challenge. Jeremy tears into the giant burger and fries first, making it look easy and downing almost all of it with 7 minutes left in the challenge. Jeremy tries a firey wing and is knocked back by the immense heat of the sauce. At 3 minutes left Jeremy devours the rest of the burger and fries and attacks the wings, fighting back the heat and pain as he chomps down on wing after wing. Jeremy took down each wing with Adam and the crowd cheering for him, finishing the Unforgiven Challenge before his 23 minutes were up. Jeremy receives a t-shirt and his photo on Red Rock Saloon’s wall of fame. Adam is amazed that Jeremy fought through the heat of the wings to defeat the platter! Adam announces that today, in the battle between man and food, man won! Adam is grinning as he presents Jeremy with a well-earned Man v. Food Nation title belt.
