Man v. Food Nation Season 4 Episode 13: Dallas Texas

Adam is headed to Dallas, Texas where he will help coach financial analyst and member of Man v. Food Nation Pete MacGillis in the Super Pho Challenge at Sprouts Spring Roll & Pho. Pete must take down 5 pounds of hot Vietnamese noodle and meat soup in 30 minutes to win the challenge.

First Adam heads to Kuby’s Sausage House where they have a huge choice of homemade sausages on the menu. Adam wants to try Kuby’s authentic German sausages. Adam checks in with the chef in the kitchen. The chef boils the sausages first to keep their flavor, then grills up a variety of German sausages for Adam to try. Adam cuts into the meat, chews and sighs, proclaiming the sausages absolutely delectable.

Next Adam visits Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse where they are known for their delicious Texas-style brisket. Adam heads back to the kitchen where he discovers their brisket is slow cooked for 9 hours until it is fall apart tender. Adam is especially interested in their slow-cooked brisket sandwich. The chef pulls the cooked meat and loads it up in a bun. Adam takes one bite and tells the audience he’s never leaving Dallas because Sonny Bryan’s brisket is SO good!

Adam and Pete are in a montage that shows Pete wearing a Food Avenger t-shirt and preparing to turn into a food super hero. The stylized comic book sequence shows Adam reacting to the wonder of Food Avenger as he prepares for the challenge ahead.

Adam heads into the kitchen at Sprouts Spring Roll & Pho to see how the pho is made. The mighty bowl of pho consists of two pounds of noodles, brisket, eye of round and oxtail broth seasoned with green and white onions and cilantro. Adams takes a taste of the pho and tells the audience it is fantastic.

Adam meets with Pete, a self-described Food Avenger, to begin the Super Pho Challenge. Pete rips open his shirt to reveal his Food Avenger t-shirt, making the crowd laugh. Pete sits at the table and the giant bowl of pho is presented to him. Pete dives in chowing down on the hot, tasty soup as Adam and the crowd cheer him on.

As Pete devours the meaty noodle soup his one obstacle is how hot the soup is. Adam notes that Pete cleverly pours some of his cold water drink into the soup, cooling it down and making it much easier to eat. Pete manages to dispatch most of the meat and noodles only minutes after starting the challenge.

By 7 minutes into the Pho challenge Pete is drinking the broth down like milk left in a cereal bowl. Adam and the crowd are counting down as Pete hits 8 minutes and is down to the last spoonful of Pho soup and downs it! Adam and the crowd go crazy cheering as Pete smiles!

Adam tells the audience not only has Pete won the challenge but he beat the old challenge record of 10 minutes finishing the challenge in 8 minutes and 32 seconds! Adam announces that today, in the battle between man and food, man won. Adam congratulates Pete on winning the pho challenge as the crowd cheers. Adam presents Pete with the official Man V. Food Nation title belt, making Pete smile.
