Man v. Food Nation Season 4 Episode 21: Omaha Nebraska
Adam travels to Omaha, Nebraska to coach local radio DJ Matt Price in Starsky’s Bar and Grill Pig Wing Challenge. Matt has 1 hour to eat 5 pounds of pig wings and 3 pounds of corn nuggets, chowing down a massive 8 pounds of food in order to win the challenge. If Matt wins the challenge he receives his meal free amd gets aStarsky’s T-shirt, if he loses he must pay for his meal. Dozens of competitors have attempted the 8-pound mountain of pork and corn but only one had ever completed the challenge.
Adam’s first stop is Amato’s where they know hoagies. Back in the kitchen the chef shows Adam how their popular hoagie The Godfather is put together. This hoagie starts with a fresh tasty roll made of toasted Italian twist bread, piled with 3/4 pound each of six meats: Cotto salami, hard salami, bone-in ham, mortadella, pepperoni, and capicola, 4 cheeses: American, hot pepper, Provolone, and Mozzarella, then topped with an amazing olive salad and sweet red peppers. Adam bites into The Godfather and is impressed with the variety of meats melding together and the tang of the olive salad topping.
Next Adam heads to The Drover where they are known for their mouth watering authentic Omaha steaks. Adam visits the kitchen where the chef shows him how they grill up their famous Omaha strip, a bone-in New York strip. The ribeye steak weighs in at 16 ounces, it is marinated in whiskey then basted in The Drover’s secret whiskey sauce until perfectly grilled. Adam cuts into the hefty steak and is wowed by the flavor of the meat and the delicious whiskey sauce.
Adam meets Matt Price at Starsky’s Bar and Grill to begin the Pig Wing Challenge. Adam goes back to the kitchen to see the Pig Wings Challenge created from the ground up. Adam watches as the chef uses bone-in pork cuts from the shoulder on a pig (the pig wings). The pig wings are fried then dipped in BBQ sauce. The corn nuggets are made up of cream corn that is deep fried. Adam looks at the 5 pounds of pig wings and the 3 pounds of corn nuggets and realizes Matt is in for a real test of man against food.
Matt begins the challenge as Adam and the crowd cheer him on. Matt removes the pork meat from the bones for the first 10 minutes of the challenge to speed up eating and mashed up the corn nuggets. Matt is prepared with a variety of sauces to add to flavor the meat to help it all go down easier. Matt managed to polish off the first 2 pounds of meat and corn at the 20-minute mark. Adam suggests Matt separate the pork and corn into two bowls at 25 minutes into the challenge. Adam’s suggestion helps Matt ease down the third pound of food at the 35 minute mark. Matt suddenly hits the food wall and struggles with the remaining 5 pounds of food. Matt forges on and is able to devour a total of 5 pounds of food at the 45 minutes into the challenge, but continues to struggle with the enormous amount of food left to eat.
Matt keeps eating until the last minute but could not finish off the last 3 pounds of the Pig Wing Challenge. Adam announces that today, in the battle between man and food, food won. Adam cheers Matt up with an official Man v. Food Nation title belt.
