Man v. Food Nation Season 4 Episode 9: Portsmouth New Hampshire

Adam Portsmouth New HampshireAdam visits Portsmouth, New Hampshire to help Man V. Food Nation member Paul “Chappy” Chapman take on JP’s Eatery’s Slapshot Challenge. The Slapshot Challenge consists of 15 sliders, a 1/2-pound of French fries and a 14-oz. milkshake. The massive plate of sliders, fries, and shake must be taken down in 30 minutes. JP’s Eatery’s Slapshot Challenge has had more than 200 challengers before Chapman take on this 4 pound challenge. Of the challengers 90% of them have failed, not good odds for Adam and his protege. If Chappy wins he receives a t-shirt and become one of the few people who took down the Slapshot Challenge.

The first stop for Adam is Gilley’s PM Lunch, famed for their hot dogs. Adam decides to taste their chili dog with “the Works”. Adam heads back to the kitchen to see how they put this famous dog together. The Works consists of chopped onions, relish, and mustard, along with that most delicious side dish poutine, a tasty concoction of fries covered in fresh cheese curds and thick gravy. Adam bites into the dog and smiles at the flavor of this delicious local favorite hot dog.

Next stop is The Friendly Toast, serving up delicious and unique breakfast items. Adam decides to take on their breakfast of Sklarmageddon. Adam heads into the kitchen to see how this mega omlet is made. The Sklarmageddon is a huge 6-egg omelet mixed with bacon, sausage, and ham, Swiss and Jalapeño Jack cheeses, red chili pecans, then doused with maple sour cream. As if that isn’t enough on the plate the Sklarmageddon is served with homefries and homemade bread. Adam folds a fluffy piece of the omlet into his mouth and is in ectacy.

It’s time for the Slapshot Challenge and Adam has coached Paul “Chappy” Chapman on the best methods to defeat the slider challenge. The enormous platter of food is delivered to the table and Chappy dives in with 30 minutes to complete the challenge. Chappy devoured a few sliders before Adam provided him his sage advice. The crowd chants and cheers as Adam gives Chappy the lowdown on defeating the platter of sliders. Adam tells Chappy to combine the fries inside the sliders, using the milkshake to make it all go down easier. Chappy drank the milkshake between bites but ran into the slider wall late in the challenge, struggling with the final sliders. With 4 seconds to spare Chappy chomped down the last of the sliders, winning the challenge! Adam announced that today, in the battle between man and food, man won. Chappy received a free t-shirt and Adam presented Chappy with an official Man v. Food Nation title belt for his efforts.
