Man v. Food Season 3 Episode 2: Colorado
In this second of Season 3 back-to-back episodes, Adam travels to Boulder, Colorado to face West End Tavern’s West End Wing King challenge. The challenge consists of a bucket of 50 buffalo wings weighing in at 5 pounds! So far 70% of participants have failed the West End Wing King challenge. Luckily for Adam unlike most of his wing challenges that include unbearably hot sauce, this challenge is aimed at eating the most wings instead. If Adam can eat 50 buffalo wings in 30 minutes he receives a spot on the Wall of Fame, a free t-shirt and a coupon for 12 free chicken wings, no doubt to be eaten at a future date.
Adam visits Beau Jo’s where they are famous for their Mountain Pie, stuffed 14-inch pizzas with attitude that the locals go gaga over. Adam watches as the Grand Sicilian is made, a monstrous 14 lb pizza made with homemade dough and filled with cooked beef, pepperoni, sausage, cheese and marinara sauce with 7 lbs of toppings. Adam takes a bite of the impressive pizza and says “It’s all flavor, its so, so good!”.
Next Adam arrives at the Buff restaurant where breakfast is champion. The Buff is the ultimate breakfast hybrid, featuring the Saddlebag breakfast, pancakes stuffed with meats and topped with fried eggs. Adam digs into a stack of the luscious meat filled pancakes topped with eggs and syrup and sighs in ecstasy after the first bite, hugging Chris the owner and saying “Thank you, thank you Chris” because the Saddlebag breakfast is so amazingly good.
At the Westend Tavern the crowd goes wild as Adam prepares to take on the West End Wing King challenge. Adam’s strategy revolves around eating two wings per minute and eating fast to finish the enormous bucket of wings in 30 minutes. The restaurant owner tells Adam he needs to eat one wing every 30 seconds. The bucket of wings are prepared, wings are fried twice, then tossed in a rich wing sauce and accompanied by blue cheese dressing for dipping. The camera pans Adam, who is wearing another challenge t-shirt that says “I survived the Fire In The Hole challenge”, possibly for challenge inspiration. Adam notices how big those chicken wings are, and so it seems everything appears to be big in this challenge.
Adam dives into the bucket of wings to start the challenge as the crowd cheers. Sauce and blue cheese is flying as Adam makes a dent in the bucket with 10 wings down and 25 minutes to go. As Adam eats wing after wing he finishes off 25 wings and realizes the sauce and blue cheese are very rich and slow his intake of wings down a notch. Adam hits 17 wings left with five minutes to finish the challenge but has hit the food wall, admitting “It’s just too much”. Adam consumes a total of 36 out of 50 wings by the time his 30 minutes is up and loses the challenge. Adam admits this Man vs Food challenge was won by food, telling the crowd he’s really glad to be in Boulder today as the crowd errupts in cheers for him.
