The Simpsons Season 21 Episode 22: The Bob Next Door

The Simpsons are all a buzz as a new neighbor moves in next door to them. The family gathers around near the front of the house to see who the new neighbor might be. When the new neighbor Walt introduces himself to the Simpsons, Bart recognizes Sideshow Bob’s voice and panics, since Sideshow Bob has sworn to kill Bart. Walt spends time visiting with the Simpsons and his other neighbors proving to be a friendly neighbor. Bart is still not convinced Walt is not Sideshow Bob.

Marge takes Bart to prison to prove Sideshow Bob is still locked up. The prison guard tells Marge to keep a low profile since prisoners can be animals when they see a woman. As they walk down the prison halls the prison guard announces a pretty lady is in the house and the prisoners grab at Marge, making her uncomfortable. Marge and Bart look inside the solitary prison cell where Sideshow Bob is wrapped up in a straight jacket and writing “kill Bart Simpson” all over the walls. Sideshow Bob seems to be trying to tell them something but the writing on the wall convinces Marge Sideshow Bob is where he should be, while Bart is still skeptical.

Bart and Milhouse sit in the treehouse singing Gilbert & Sullivan tunes to tempt the new neighbor Walt into singing along with them. Bart knows Sideshow Bob can’t resist singing along to Gilbert & Sullivan songs. When Walt does not join in with them Bart begins to think it might not be Sideshow Bob after all.

Walt comes over to the Simpsons and tells them he has an extra ticket and would like to take Bart to a baseball game. Homer and Marge tell Bart he can go with Walt. Bart gets very excited and accepts Walt’s invitation to the game. Back at the prison, Sideshow Bob escapes and heads to Walt’s house to confront him. He reveals he is Sideshow Bob’s cellmate Walt and that Sideshow Bob drugged Walt and switches faces with him in order to escape prison. Flashbacks show Sideshow Bob taking a swig of booze and screaming as he cuts off his face and sews the new one in place.

As Walt drives Bart to the baseball game, Bart notices that Walt has missed the exit to the stadium. Sideshow Bob reveals his true identity and ties Bart up, then says he can sing all the Gilbert & Sullivan songs he wants now and proceeds to sing one. Bart tries to convince Sideshow Bob he shouldn’t kill him. Sideshow Bob tells Bart he will shoot him at five corners, a place where five states line up so Sideshow Bob can shoot Bart in one state with him in another state and not be tried for murder.

Walt meets up with the Simpsons and tells them Sideshow Bob is going to kill Bart. When they arrive at five corners, Walt attacks Sideshow Bob and wrestles the gun from him. Walt suddenly has a bee inside his Sideshow Bob face and loses a grip on the gun, which Sideshow Bob grabs from him. Just as Sideshow Bob is ready to shoot Bart, Chief Wiggum and police from the other four state jurisdictions arrive and arrest Sideshow Bob. Chief Wiggum reveals to Sideshow Bob that Bart called the police station and told them to follow the car, suspecting that Walt was Sideshow Bob and would try to kill Bart.

A new neighbor moves in next door to the Simpsons. As the Simpsons stand outside to see who their new neighbor is, Ned Flanders greets his brother who is as holy-roller and peppy as Ned is. Homer screams “No!” thinking one Flanders is more than enough, as the Flanders brothers exchange happy chit-chat between each other.
