Winners Of 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards 2011

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards was a better awards show than usual, no doubt due to some good script writing and direction, running like clockwork with some actual entertainment throughout the show. Jane Lynch hosted the Emmys and did a very good job. It was refreshing to see some improved lines and funny bits that seemed much more relaxed than in previous Emmy shows, including Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel wrestling on the stage floor and Amy Pohler jumping up on stage when her name was announced as an Outstanding Actress In A Comedy nominee, with the rest of the nominees following suite.

I was very happy to see Peter Dinklage win Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for Game of Thrones and Margo Martindale win as Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for Justified. If anyone deserved to win an Emmy this year it was Martindale for her role as Mags, it was an amazing performance. There were a few surprise wins that made the show pretty exciting. Modern Family not only won Outstanding Comedy again but this year Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen won Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress In A Comedy for their excellent comic work in the show. Melissa McCarthy, who was great in The Gilmore Girls, won Outstanding Actress in a Comedy for her role in Mike & Molly, beating out the powerhouse list of Edie Falco, Tina Fey, Laurie Linney, Martha Plimpton, and Amy Poehler for the prize. The Daily Show With Jon Stewart won yet again for Outstanding Variety, Comedy Or Musical Series. I’m a big fan of The Daily Show but I’m still waiting for The Colbert Report to pull a well deserved win in this category.
